About Brendan
Brendan Hoare has been blazing trails and attempting the impossible all his life.
And he’s always succeeded.
Brendan is a big-picture strategist. He plays a long game. For decades, he’s been instrumental in helping achieve some of the organic sector’s biggest milestones, both in New Zealand and internationally.
Wide-ranging achievements
He represented Oceania in the World Rural Forum’s pitch for a United Nations-sponsored Year of Family Farming, which came to fruition in 2014.
When he saw the organic sector would benefit from a scholarly publication for peer-reviewed research, he founded the Journal of Organic Systems.
A master networker, he leveraged his contacts to help organic producers break into the Australian, Asian and American markets through his consultancy, BuyPure New Zealand.
To unite, gain momentum and raise the profile of the organic sector he collaborated across difference to bring together the organic Federation of New Zealand that morphed into Organics Aotearoa New Zealand.
He designed, planned, raised capital and launched the New Zealand Organic Market Report through industry body Organics Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ).
Brendan was also instrumental in helping protect the organic sector’s integrity by driving The Organic Products & Production Bill, passed by Parliament in March 2023.

He brings high energy, commitment and drive to every project. He can breathe life back into stuck organisations requiring new paths forward.
Brendan balances out the big picture by keeping his hands firmly in the earth at his certified organic property, Long Breath Farm. He’s a devoted family man, long-time surfer and passionate lover of music.
